Educo has been working with young people from the Cariboo and around the Province for just over 40 years. Educo is a not-for-profit, charitable organization with no religious affiliation.
Educo is a strong community partner and has always been passionate about supporting young people to develop self esteem, experience the outdoors and discover the joy and reward of challenging themselves both physically and internally.
What is the Community of Heart?
The Community of Heart is an opportunity for the community to take responsibility for developing our youth into balanced, inspired and energized leaders of tomorrow.
We are working to develop and expand a Community of parents, businesses and individuals who contribute a sustainable monthly donation which will be used to create low priced and free Educo opportunities for young people. Our first goal is 500 people giving monthly support!
Why the Community of Heart?
Our current reality is that many deserving local young people cannot access Educo's exceptional programs despite every effort to keep prices as low as possible while reaching out for lines of funding. The price of an Educo Summer Course is about halfway between a regular “summer camp” fee and an “Outward Bound” tuition.
We believe Educo offers more to young people than most ordinary summer camps and with the responsibility of delivering unique and powerful programs comes the substantial costs of training, insurance, infrastructure and program development. Unlike many non-profits, Educo receives no core funding. All of the opportunities Educo offers are funded by our community.
And, to be honest, we like it that way!
Instead of having to rely on advertising money from corporate sponsors or inconsistent money from large funders we have remained strong for 40 years relying on the strength of parents, friends, community members and volunteers.
How Will The Funds Be Used?
3 Ways:
-
Educo will offer many more full and partial scholarships to young people. We have many people recommending young people to us every year and this will give us the resources to connect.
-
The money will be used to reduce our prices. Though we offer much more than most site based summer camps, we would much prefer to charge the same amount which requires assistance.
- Lastly, the money will be used how you would like us to use it! As a part of the Community of Heart, you will be informed how we are spending the money and you will have the ability to offer ideas, vote on new program directions and give feedback on development.
Please Join.
By offering a tax-deductible, monthly donation to Educo you will be part of developing our young people. We believe drawing out self-esteem is the first step to creating responsible adults and what we are offering you is a way to use your resources and ideas to be a part of making that happen.
